The inspiration for our G.LION Hawaii private label Rare Character bourbon came entirely from the glass. Before a name, before a design, before any discussion of what it would become, we kept coming back to the same aromas: Arare Rice Crackers, Cherry Blossom, and Buttered Popcorn.
Those unmistakable notes immediately transported us to Japan. The scent of spring blossoms, the comfort of familiar snacks, and the nostalgic feeling of wandering through a Japanese festival or train station with something warm in hand.
From that moment, the concept for the label began to take shape. Rather than forcing a story onto the whiskey, we chose to let the whiskey tell us what the story already was.
The result is a private label that celebrates the connection between American bourbon and the Japanese inspirations that are deeply rooted in G.LION's heritage. Every time we open a bottle, we're reminded of the aromas that started it all.
The mashbill is a unique blend of 64% Rye, 30% Corn, and 4% Malt.
